ED Announces New Covid-19 Measures

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced new Covid-19 measures following the detection of the new variant named Omicron by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The new measures are with immediate effect and will be reviewed after 14 days.

Mnangagwa declared that all returning residents and visitors have to undergo PCR tests and will be quarantined at their own cost for a period of days recommended by WHO.

A new curfew running from 9pm to 6am will be enforced to “limit movement and hence transmission,” with essential services announced in previous Government gazettes being exempted.

Shops shall operate for 12 hours between 7am and 7pm while those attending gatherings must adhere to WHO protocols.

The president also announced that all funerals will be monitored by health personnel while no liquor will be consumed at bottle stores.

Only vaccinated patrons will be allowed in bars and night clubs. Nhau/Indaba
