Mining Firm Constructs Community Library For Hwange

A Hwange-based coal producer, South Mining Pvt Ltd is in the process of constructing a community library for the residents.

This is part of its corporate social responsibility for Hwange Local Board (HLB).

The entity recently added US$60 million towards investments in Hwange district after being awarded a mining licence to start operations next year.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of the community library, the Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Matebeleland North province, Richard Moyo applauded the efforts of the mining firm in improving the education system through establishment of the library.

“Our government’s main agenda is to make sure that all the children are provided with quality education. Such initiatives will compliment government programmes towards achieving this goal,’’ Moyo said.

“We appreciate such private and public partnerships. Such relations between private investors and local authorities improve the communities they are operating in.”

Moyo also urged all the companies operating in Hwange and throughout the province to emulate what the mining company and HLB have done.

HLB chairman Mr Nqobile Mabhena further appreciated the initiative saying this will improve the pass rate of the district.

“Hwange district has been getting low pass rates. With this library there is going to be an improvement because books and research systems will be available,” he said.

The community library which will bear the name South Mining Empumalanga Community Library will be located in Empumalanga Suburb adjacent to Chilisa Secondary School. Indaba
