Esigodini Veld Fire Victims Named

Police have identified 10 people who died after trying to control a veld fire  that broke out at Esigodini’s Rodrose Farm yesterday.

In statement Tuesday, national Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they were all identified by their next of kin as follows:

Kessary Sibanda (53), Ian Mudimba (38), Simon Mdlongwa (39), Nelisingwane Dlamini (47), Luzibo Tshuma (age not supplied), Oliver Mudimba (39), Bafana Moyo (53), England Moyo (20), Thabani Mpofu (46) and Menelisi Ngwenya (20).

He said their bodies were taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for postmortem.

Asst Comm Nyathi expressed concern over veld fires and warned that the police will not hesitate to arrest those recklessly igniting them leading to loss of lives and destruction of property.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is concerned with incidents of veld fires in all parts of the country where lives have been lost and property destroyed in situations which clearly show actsof recklessness, negligence and in some cases criminal activities,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
