There was a huge turnout at Gwanzura Stadium on Sunday when it hosted a football tournament featuring the country’s top musicians.
The event was organised by Pacific Storm who pumped in thousands of United States dollars for logistics, medals and prize money.
Vigilance FC emerged victorious walking away with a trophy and a prize money of US$1 000. There were consolation prizes for other participants that included Freeman’s Gallis FC, King Shaddy’s Makorokoza FC and Zim Musicians which was captained by sungura musician Peter Moyo.
Pacific Storm Trade Marketing manager Kuda Chiutsi expressed satisfaction with the response saying they have achieved the set goals. “It was a great initiative that we thought about as a business because we wanted young adults to come out and showcase their talents within their regions.
“And then to Harare here at Gwanzura was something commendable, we saw more than 12 teams playing, some of them celebrities and others coming from around the country. “The tournament also aimed at keeping young adults busy and don’t experience some of the social ills they face daily,” said Chiutsi.
Pacific Storm recently commissioned a borehole for Dzivarasekwa Extension community in partnership with Zimbabwean music giant Alick Macheso. The organisation said it has put in place a number of such initiatives going forward.
“As a business, we are committed to continuing with such initiatives, among many other projects that we have held, among them bringing water to communities,” said Chiutsi.
