In a bid to inspire young men to rise above life’s challenges, the Avenues Clinic on Monday hosted a Father’s Day mentorship event in Harare, bringing together students from Mufakose High, Harare High, and Allan Wilson.
The event featured inspiring messages from three of the clinic’s professionals — Chief Financial Officer Mr. Peddy Chigunduru, physician Dr. Kusotera, and neurosurgeon Dr. Nyamapfeni — who encouraged the students to pursue their goals with resilience, mental strength, and a sense of purpose.
Mr. Chigunduru shared his personal story, highlighting how he overcame a difficult upbringing through discipline, clarity of vision, and unwavering commitment to his goals.
“Life will test you — your background, your circumstances, even your own doubts. But the difference lies in how you respond,” said Mr. Chigunduru. “Keep fighting for your dreams with discipline and a strong mindset, and you will rewrite your story.”
Echoing this, Dr. Kusotera, a physician at the Avenues Clinic, highlighted the importance of nurturing both physical and mental wellbeing as foundational for achieving one’s aspirations.
“Good health is the platform on which all success is built,” he told the attentive audience. “Take care of your body and mind, seek help when you need it, and don’t shy away from challenges — they shape you.”
Dr. Kusotera also spoke passionately about rejecting limiting stereotypes that often box young men into narrow roles or expectations.
“Don’t allow society’s labels or prejudices to define who you are or what you can become,” he said. “Break those chains by believing in your own potential and creating your own story.”
Dr. Nyamapfeni, a neurosurgeon, encouraged the young men to develop mental toughness and purpose-driven lives to navigate the pressures they face.
“Purpose gives you direction and strength when life is difficult. It empowers you to make wise choices that protect your future,” he said.
The event was not only a celebration of fatherhood but a call for young men to take charge of their lives by embracing vision, resilience, and responsibility.
The Avenues Clinic team emphasized their commitment to mentoring youth and providing opportunities that enable them to thrive, both in health and career.
“Your circumstances don’t define you,” said Mr. Chigunduru. “What defines you is your response — your ability to set clear goals and pursue them with courage and consistency.”
