Avenues Clinic Showcases Cutting-Edge Critical Care With Life-Saving NICU Successes

The Avenues Clinic has reaffirmed its position as a leader in Zimbabwe’s private healthcare sector through a combination of life-saving neonatal care, modernised facilities, and advanced critical care capabilities.

During a media tour held yesterday, hospital officials showcased the newly refurbished paediatric and private wards. The institution also highlighted its high-performing Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) — where premature infants as small as 645 grams have not only survived but have thrived under the care of specialised staff and advanced medical equipment.

“Especially this winter, we’ve had quite a number of these cases, and we’re proud to report that they’re all growing well,” said Acting Principal Nursing Officer, Elizabeth Mhanya.

The ICU is supported by a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with capacity for seven patients, and an adaptable infrastructure that can respond quickly to critical care needs.

“Even in our casualty department, we can ventilate patients from the moment they arrive. That level of preparedness speaks to our commitment to critical care,” Mhanya added.

Additionally, the clinic’s newly refurbished private ward has been designed to accommodate patients who may need to transition into high-dependency care.

“In case of any special need, our newly refurbished private rooms are especially made to be converted to attend to high-care patients,” she explained.

The Avenues clinic recently completed a comprehensive renovation of both the paediatric and private wards, funded through a US$5 million capital injection from its shareholders. So far, US$2 million has been utilised — with US$1.2 million spent on critical clinical equipment and US$800,000 allocated to the renovations.

The Avenues Clinic General Manager Mrs. Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu said the upgrades reflect a commitment to both comfort and clinical excellence.

“We’ve upgraded the floors, walls, furniture, and linen — giving both wards a fresh, modern look. The paediatric ward now has 16 beds and the private ward has 8,” she said.

With improved infrastructure, skilled personnel, and a growing reputation for high clinical outcomes, The Avenues Clinic continues to set the benchmark for private healthcare in Zimbabwe, where technology and expertise are saving lives every day. Nhau/Indaba
