The Harare Mega Doek & Slay event has sparked widespread frustration after early bird tickets sold out in less than three hours on Friday, leaving many fans empty-handed and questioning why organisers did not provide an online purchase option.
The early bird tickets, released under a “Black Friday” theme, were priced at US$9.99 (general) and US$29.99 (VIP). However, by the time most people finished work, tickets had already sold out, prompting complaints from fans across the country who felt excluded from the sale.
Some fans also raised concerns that a few individuals may have bought tickets in bulk, potentially creating an artificial shortage ahead of the official sale. The organisers, however, have not confirmed any reports of hoarding.
“By the time we got the announcement, tickets were already gone. How are we supposed to buy if everything happens in Harare?” one fan wrote on social media.
All official selling points were based in Harare, including selected MedOrange, BestZone, Diamond, and Booties Pharmacies, as well as Gelato Crema outlets. Fans in other cities such as Bulawayo, Mutare, and Gweru said they were left with no way to participate, given there was no online option.
In response to the backlash, organisers Event Hulks and Doek & Slay Management released a statement on Saturday acknowledging the overwhelming response.
“We did not anticipate that Doek & Slay would draw stadium-level numbers; the tickets sold out in less than three hours,” the statement read.
They apologised for the inconvenience and assured fans that they are working to make tickets available online for future events, and to possibly expand the venue to accommodate larger crowds.
Fans are now being urged to prepare for the Phase 1 ticket sale, which opens on November 10, 2025, at 8:00 AM at accredited outlets.
The Harare Mega Doek & Slay, set for December 14, 2025, at Alex Sports Club, celebrates African beauty, confidence, and sisterhood, with performances by Jah Prayzah, Baba Harare, Jah Signal, Nisha TS, and Intotal Band.
