“Someone Wants Me Dead” — Job Sikhala Alleges Assassination Plot

Outspoken opposition politician Job Sikhala has alleged a chilling attempt on his life, claiming he was poisoned during a recent trip to South Africa.

“On the 10th of October this year, while in South Africa, I was poisoned by a waiter at the hotel where I was staying,” Sikhala revealed in a statement. “I spent a week in hospital on life support. I survived by the grace of God.”

Sikhala said he arrived in South Africa on 8 October and immediately noticed suspicious individuals loitering around his hotel. “I didn’t know they were after me,” he said. “I suspect the waiter was paid to poison me, because I only ate at the hotel that day before I fell ill.”

The former Chitungwiza legislator, currently out on bail, is also facing scrutiny after explosives were discovered in a vehicle he was traveling in while in South Africa. He claims the incident was part of a broader plot to assassinate him.

“In their relentless desperation, they followed me to South Africa to kill me,” he said. “They planted explosives in my uncle Alexander Thema’s car, intending to blow me up. When that failed, they tried to involve rogue elements of the South African intelligence system to frame me — but that too failed.”

Sikhala, affectionately known as “Wiwa” in political circles, said he had been trailed from Botswana into South Africa. He promised that the full truth would emerge in court.

“Much of the evidence will come out at trial. It will be a moment of reckoning — the greatest exposure of how desperate they are to eliminate me.”

Looking ahead to the 2026 elections, Sikhala struck a defiant tone:

“2026 will mark the resurgence of people power. The masses will rise to reclaim our country from the oppressors. No oppressor can defeat the united force of our people. Fear not — only God holds the power over life.”

Sikhala is the founder and president of the National Democratic Working Group (NDWG).
