JUST IN: STATE NOT YET READY FOR TRIAL IN MAHERE CASE

The State is yet to provide a trial date for the commencement of MDC-A’s spokesperson Fadzai Mahere who is jointly charged with six other activists on incitement of public violence charges.

The six who include, Jessca Drury, Simon Drury, Tinashe Murapata, Nyasha Musandi, Jaser Lotter and Tinotendwa Muswe appeared for their routine remand on allegations of inciting public violence after they were found wielding placards at Groombrdge shopping centre in Mt Pleasant, Harare.

They were arrested wielding the placards which the police said were aimed at inciting an illegal demonstration and public violence on July 31 this year.

Doug Coltart who was part of their legal representationt said they had made an application for their bail conditions to be altered since the State was yet to avail a trial date.

The State led by Michael Reza had told the court that police investigations over the matter would be ready by end of August but the docket is yet to be availed for the trial to start.

The court adjourned and the State is expected to give it’s response to the Defence’s application Wednesday afternoon.

The seven are all currently out of custody on $5 000 bail each. Nhau/Indaba
