A bogus medical doctor, who allegedly infiltrated Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ casualty unit to practice as a physician registrar for seven months, was today denied bail by Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga.
The 25-year-old Admire Chisi of Zimre Park, Ruwa, allegedly attended to four patients whom he issued with medical affidavits and prescriptions.
He was arraigned before the courts on charges of impersonating a public official and fraud.
Prosecuting, Sebastian Mutizirwa opposed bail saying Chisi was facing a serious offence after endangering the lives of patients through his deeds. He further stated that there was a clear nexus between him and the case.
Chisi’s lawyer, Nicholas Chikono, said his client was a suitable candidate for bail and that the State was only relying on two facts which were not compelling at all to deny him bail.
Chikono told the court that there was no proof that Chisi is the one who authored the medical affidavits and medical prescriptions further begging the court not to be swayed by stories awash on social media in making its decision.
Magistrate Taruvinga said she will hand down her ruling on Monday next week.
Circumstances that led to Chisi’s arrest are that between April and October 20, 2020, Chisi went to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals where he misrepresented that he was a medical doctor.
He was apprehended by Doctor Tapiwa Nyakudya, who discovered anomalies in his conduct. This was after he also failed to produce his practising certificate. The court heard that Chisi was taken to the police where a report was made leading to his arrest. *Nhau/Indaba*
