Young Warriors give away lead twice, but Ndiraya happy with result

By Ray Munyoro

Young Warriors coach Tonderai Ndiraya is delighted with the performance of his charges in their 2-2 draw against South Africa on Thursday.
Zimbabwe opened their 2020 COSAFA U-20 Men’s championship campaign with a draw against the hosts, surrendering in injury time.
The team took the lead twice in the game with Panashe Mutimbanyoka and Lexington Mujokoro putting their names on the score sheet.
Ndiraya is, however, content with the result.
“This was our first competitive match, with a team assembled, and which only trained for 10 days,” said Ndiraya.
“So, I am happy about the way they went about their business.”
Ndiraya said he boys could not match their opponents in terms of fitness.
“We couldn’t go pound-for-pound because of our fitness levels, so we sat back (to try and defend their lead). We conceded a soft goal, but I am glad for my boys, who were playing a strong team,” he said.
Zimbabwe face Mozambique on Sunday in their second Group A match before taking on Lesotho on December 8.
Winners of the three groups progress to the semi-finals while the best runners-up, from the groups, will join them in the last four. Nhau/Indaba
