Business halts for ZANU PF DCC elections

Candidates and officials alike had to abandon personal business for three months to deal with the demands of the recently held ZANU PF district coordinating committee (DCC) elections, party insiders have revealed.
Time and other resources were invested in campaigning while candidates also had regular meetings with party officials to lobby for the election.
ZANU PF is largely considered a feeding trough, particularly for those that get into leadership positions.
A campaign manager of a winning candidate in the Kadoma district intra-party weekend plebiscite, said for the past three months his life revolved around the elections.
“This election has come with a lot of strain on me and my colleagues. We initially thought it would be a two-week process but it has taken a good three months,” said the party insider who preferred anonymity.
“I was failing to tend to my professional work. Business at my plot was severely affected. We would go for long days on the trot on the campaign trail.”
Kadoma was the election command centre for Chakari, Muzvezve, Mhondoro-Ngezi and Sanyati. According to a party member, ZANU PF managed to give resources to campaign teams.
“We had not budgeted for the long period of campaigning. Our coffers were getting depleted and we’re relieved,” he said.
DCC posts which had been disbanded almost a decade ago were reintroduced this year.
Campaign mode started well before the official election period was announced. There were postponements due to a plethora of reasons, including pronouncement of new guidelines in the candidate selection criteria. Nhau/Indaba
