Zimbabwean Journalists Urged To Report Objectively On China-Related Issues

Journalists should play their role in enhancing the relationship that exists between China and Africa, the president of the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has said.

ZUJ president Michael Chideme made the remarks during the Sino-Zimbabwe Journalism Awards ceremony held in the capital of Harare recently. The awards, organized by Harare-based China-Africa Economic and Culture Exchange and Research Center (CAECERC), recognize Zimbabwean journalists’ positive contributions to the Zimbabwe-China relations.

His remarks came in the wake of recent revelations that some local Zimbabwean news publications were being offered financial rewards by Western embassies to publish falsehoods against Chinese investments in the country.

Recently, Zimbabwe’s largest daily newspaper, The Herald, revealed that the United States is funding and training local reporters to write anti-China stories and discredit Chinese investments. Xinhua Global Service
