Zanu PF Members Part Of 16 Held For CCC Kwekwe Rally Murder

Police have arrested 16 suspects allegedly connected with the murder of a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporter who was murdered during a rally addressed by opposition leader Nelson Chamisa in Kwekwe yesterday.

According to a police memorandum seen by Nhau, the deceased, Mboneni Ncube (30) of house number 917/19 Mbizo , Kwekwe was stabbed thrice with a sharp object on the back and died whilst admitted at Kwekwe General Hospital.

Police have launched a man-hunt for suspect Kennedy Simbi who is believed to have inflicted the fatal blow on the deceased.

Of the 16 suspects, four are Zanu PF card carrying members and were identified as Edmore Shoshera alias MaSparrow (30), Albert Maketo Tembo (29), Perscy Mukwaturi (38) and Sydney Samanyayi (29).

So far Takunda Chivenyengwa (21), Isaac Tapfumaneyi (37)

James Jere (28), Musa Matingwende (32), Shepard Mbewu (44), Progress Munyuki (30), Amon Kwachata, , Fraud Munyuki (29), Blessing Tomu (18), Valentine Mandizvidza (21), Mischeck Mutetwa (32), and Talent Imbayago (28) are also in police custody assisting with investigations.

Five of the suspects are detained at ZRP Kwekwe Central DB 351-355/22 while the other eleven are detained at ZRP Mbizo under DB 344-354/22.

Circumstances:

On February 27, 2022 at Mbizo 4 shopping centre open space, suspected Zanu PF youths wearing yellow T-shirts infiltrated the gathering around 2pm while Chamisa was addressing his supporters.

One of the suspects allegedly threw a stone into the gathering before running away.

Police said towards the end of the rally the suspects also intercepted people in CCC T-shirts who were walking to the rally and threw stones at them.

The skirmishes, that took place about 400 metres from the venue, resulted in deceased being stabbed while all the injured are admitted at Kwekwe General and Topomasi Hospitals in a serious condition.

These are Wilson Maseko (28) who sustained cuts on the head, Isaac Chagonda (50) with a deep cut on the back, Vincent Sithole (28) who sustained a cut on the back and Onias Mavhaya who suffered two broken ribs.

Mutwetwa Mudzengi (73) sustained a dislocated hip and Langton Dube (60) sustained head injuries while Justice Chakanetsa (36) of ZRP Main Camp, Kwekwe sustained swollen hands.

According to the police, three motor vehicles that were parked at the shopping centre about 200 metres from the venue were damaged.

A blue Honda Fit registration number AEQ6375, owned by Tinevimbo Zhou of Mbizo Kwekwe got its rear screen damaged.

A white Mitsubishi Canter truck with no registration plates whose owner is not yet known had all its 6 tyres deflated while a Toyota Vios registration number AET 0792 owned by Emma Nyika had its rear left window damaged.

When police reached the scene they were tipped off that the suspects were hiding at Jessie Gardens, Mbizo 11 Kwekwe, which is about 1km from the rally’s venue.

They raided the gardens leading to the arrest of the suspects.

Three motor vehicles were also recovered at the gardens and searches were made in a silver Mercedes Benz AFK 6958 belonging to Mukwaturi.

Inside the vehicle were three unbranded yellow T-Shirts, one yellow bottom, one black trousers and one sjambok.

Recovered inside a black Honda Fit AFC 3464 owned Imbayago, was one machete.

A machete wrapped with red cloth on the handle, one homemade knife with green handle, two catapults, two small catapult stones, one Tecno cell phone, one Nokia cell phone, one gold scale and two black and green caps inscribed ED were also recovered from a white Toyota Chaser registration number ACK 0756 whose owner is yet to be established.
