Ambassador Sanyatwe Appointed New Army Commander

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Lieutenant General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe as the new Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).

The appointment is with immediate effect.

Lt. Gen Sanyatwe takes over from outgoing Commander Lt Gen David Sigauke who has retired. The former Presidential Guard commander was currently Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Tanzania.

In August 2019 he was placed on the United States sanctions list after being accused of commanding troops fingered for killing six civilians after protests that followed the 2018 elections. Nhau/Indaba
