A Glendale man has been remanded in custody for alleged attempted murder charges after brutally assaulting his wife over a meal, Nhau/Indaba has heard.
Francis Chagaka (23) from Seddies farm in Glendale was dragged before the courts by his wife Fungai Mugabe (22) to face the domestic violence charges.
The court heard that on 28 November this year just before midnight, Chigaka arrived home from a drinking spree at Seddies farm.
Reportedly drunk, Chigaka demanded food from Mugabe who told him that he had already eaten his share earlier.
Her response resulted into an altercation where harsh words were exchanged between the couple, before Chigaka headbutted her twice in the face.
Mugabe fell down and Chigaka allegedly took a shovel and assaulted her on the head leaving deep open cuts.
The wife managed to free herself by hitting Chigaka with a metal bar and fled to her aunt’s house at the farm with Chigaka in hot pursuit.
He then threw a brick which immobilised her on the ground where he continued beating her using the brick several times resulting in more injuries on her head.
However, the court was left astounded when Mugabe informed it of her intention to withdraw the case after filing an affidavit citing that he was the only one who could settle her medical bills.
She further told the court that she was desperate as an orphan and needed Chigaka to continue providing for her.
Magistrate Amos Mbobo withheld the withdrawal affidavit citing that, Chagaka was facing serious charges of attempted murder and the court had to wait for a full medical report to assess the extent of injuries.
Consequently, Chakaga was remanded in custody until the medical reports are availed before the court on December 21, 2022 with Edward Katsvairo prosecuting. Nhau/Indaba
