Gold Panning: 14 Learners Injured As Kwekwe School Classroom Block Caves In

Fourteen grade five pupils at Globe and Phoenix Primary School in Kwekwe were left injured after a classroom they were learning from caved in, Thursday.

The floor of the classroom is alleged to have given in following illegal gold panning activities underneath the school.

According to the ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, the injured learners were immediately rushed to Kwekwe General Hospital where were attended to.

The unfortunate incident follows several media reports concerning efforts made by the school authorities to put a stop to the illegal mining activities affecting the school.

Last year, school head Isaac Bvupajena,  told the media that they had alerted responsible authorities but no immediate action was taken to address the situation after panners allegedly threatened the school’s security and other employees with death. Nhau/Indaba
