Former Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba was on Wednesday afternoon blasted by Harare magistrate Trynos Utahwashe for dressing inappropriately before the court.
Gomba had turned up for routine remand over a matter he is being charged for criminal abuse of office after he used his mayoral position to illegally alter an approved layout plan belonging to a housing cooperative known as Youth in Business Housing Trust located in Harare.
Utahwashe queried why Gomba had no sense of occasion by coming to court dressed in a T-shirt and a pair of jeans.
“How come you come to court dressed like this? A former mayor who needs tutoring, why don’t you have a sense of occasion?” he said.
Gomba apologised and told him that he had come to court unexpectedly as he wanted to verify if was to appear since they had clashed with his lawyer over the actual reporting date.
Prosecutor Michael Reza set October 16 next week as his next remand date.
Gomba is currently on $10 000 bail with conditions not to set his feet at Town House or dealing with municipal officials. Nhau/Indaba
