Government continues to process the extradition of fugitives evading justice and monitoring elements from the opposition and civic organisations that are bent on motivating subversive intentions, a top government official has said.
Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural heritage Kazembe Kazembe said this during a press conference at his offices in Harare Friday.
He said the fugitives in collaboration with some elements from the opposition are being used by sponsors to deliberately portray the country in bad light through social media.
“The abuse of social media and the scourge of fake reportage, which are often motivated by subversive intentions, will remain closely monitored to protect peace and stability in the country….there are some among us, some Trojan horses, working day and night to try to cause chaos in our nation,” he said.
He accused the opposition and its compatriots based outside the country of stifling government’s re-engagement efforts and for trying to tarnish the country’s image by faking abductions and attracting unnecessary attention to get arrested.
“Some have gone on overdrive in trying to tarnish the image of our country, which is their own country as well. We have also seen a number of people deliberately breaking the law so that they can be arrested and make the headlines, possibly for some reward from somewhere.”
Kazembe called on the citizens to provide any information that would lead to “fugitives” like Savior Kasukuwere being brought to book.
“Citizens must play an active role in reporting any acts of corruption they witness and should help law enforcement agencies to identify and locate the suspects”
“We are seized with securing the return of fugitives from justice that are scattered in various parts of the globe. We urge the suspects to do themselves a favour by voluntarily returning to clear their names if they are innocent,” he said.
Kazembe told reporters that they had reached an advanced stage with countries hosting the fugitives so that they will be brought to book Nhau/Indaba
