By Richard Kawazi

A daring man from Lowdale farm in Mazowe had a horrific death last Thursday after being allegedly beaten by a mob for presenting fake gold to illegal buyers.

Police sources told Nhau/Indaba that on February 10 this year, Ananias Sasawi (33), approached illegal gold buyers Patson Mashokoli (29) and Samson Masiya at Watchfield farm intending to sale gold in the company of a friend.

During the transaction, Mashokoli tested and discovered that Sasawi had presented fake gold weighing 13.3 grams.

This deceptive move infuriated Mashokoli leading Sasawi’s unidentified accomplice to bolt from the scene after sensing danger. He left Sasawi behind to face the enraged gold buyers.

Mashokoli allegedly started beating him up before Masiya joined in.

This attracted the attention of other gold panners who also joined the beating frenzy until Sasawi has helpless. He reportedly sustained grave bodily injuries after the thorough beating.

After noticing Sasawi’s serious injuries, Mashokoli hired a scotch cart to ferry him to Concession hospital where he died along the way.

Mashokoli handed himself to the Police and narrated the events leading to his arrest.

Investigations are still underway and more arrests loom according to police sources. Nhau/Indaba
