Ming Ching Mine Security Guards Lose Firearm To Armed Robbers

By Wendy Kusema

Five unknown armed robbers reportedly stormed Bindura’s Ming Ching Woodbrooke Mine and robbed security personnel of a shotgun, Nhau/Indaba has heard.

The assailants allegedly disarmed Jephias Makiwa a security guard at the Chinese owned mine and took his security Bantrum shotgun with them last Friday.

Speaking to Nhau/Indaba, Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Sergeant Major Samuel Chikasha said the incident happened around midnidght.

He said the robbers gained entry into the mine after cutting the perimeter fence.

Two of them were armed with unknown rifles whilst the other three had wooden logs.

They allegedly ordered Makiwa to lie down and surrender the shotgun before two others armed with rifles went into the guard room where they found another security officer, Tafireyi Chikonye (31) asleep.

The duo ordered him to lie on the floor before confiscating his cellphone and left.

Chikonye’s cellphone was later found dropped near the security fence but the shotgun vanished with the gang.

S/Major Chikasha cautioned owners of private security companies to upgrade their personnel’s alertness as well as safeguarding possession of their weapons.

“Private security companies should always update their security architecture to minimize breaches.

“They should also safeguard firearms in possession of their guards to avoid fueling armed robbery cases through the use of stolen firearms,” he said.

Police have since appealed for anyone with information that might lead to the arrest of the five suspects to come forward or inform any police base or station near them.  Nhau/Indaba
