Mnangagwa Orders Tribunal For ZACC Commissioner Muchegwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has proclaimed a three member tribunal of inquiry into the fitness of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission Commissioner Frank Muchegwa to remain holding office following allegations of corruption.

This proclamation is contained in Statutory Instrument 228 of 2020, which seeks to inquire into his fitness to continue holding office.

According to the constitution ZACC is an independent body whose disciplinary procedures are equally the same as those relating to judges among others of equivalent status.
Commissioner Muchegwa is currently under suspension after complaints that he improperly conducted himself over a corruption matter under his purview although his actual flaws remain out of the public domain.

Investigations into Muchegwa are related to gross misconduct in office on accusations of obstructing the course of justice, interference with investigations and passing on of information concerning matters under the corruption watchdog’s investigations.

Muchegwa is also facing the tribunal on matters of professional conduct by engaging himself in matters he had a conflict of interest.

Retired Justice Nicholas Ndou is the chairperson of the tribunal while ministry of Justice secretary Virginia Mabhiza is the tribunal’s secretary.

The tribunal shall commence within five months once its members have been appointed and a report is to be immediately availed to Mnangagwa at the completion of the inquiry. Nhau/Indaba
