Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU PF does not have any vacancy in its leadership positions as is being peddled by some political malcontents seeking relevance, a top party official has said.
Kazembe Kazembe, the party’s Mashonaland Central chairperson said this Friday while addressing members of the media at the party’s newly opened provincial headquarters in Bindura.
His sentiments come in the backdrop of a press conference held by ZANU PF insurgents Jimmy Kunaka and Godfrey Tsenengamu this week asserting that Mnangagwa should keep his word and relinquish the Presidency to give Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga a term to rule.
Kazembe warned them against using media houses to peddle a false narrative that Mashonaland Central has pleaded for the return of exiled former political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere to lead the party at its highest level.
“The province is not reaching out to any self-exiled politicians to come and fill any post. As a province we are strongly behind the leadership of His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa. We totally subscribe to his visionary leadership,” said Kazembe.
President Mnangagwa has been endorsed by the province through its three main structures as its Presidential candidate for 2023.
Kazembe accused the opposition of trying to put a wedge between Mnangagawa and Chiwenga each time the country is preparing for elections.
“This has happened before,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
