Police Make Arrest In Child Kidnapping Case

Police in Harare have confirmed the arrest of a man involved in the kidnapping of a toddler at Montague shopping centre ten days ago.

In a statement Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said they had arrested Gift Chemhuru (40) for kidnapping the four week old toddler.

“The baby was rescued from the suspect’s homestead on 2nd November 2020 in Zvimba following a tip off from members of the public who heard the baby crying incessantly without being breastfed. The baby has since been taken to Zvimba District hospital,” he said.

Nyathi said the police were now hunting Chemhuru’s wife, Mirriam Bwanali in connection with the matter.

“She escaped during the time police were called in. Gift Chemhuru was also wanted for Theft and Motorvehicle related offences,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
