Two detectives from the Drugs and Narcotics section of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have been arrested for criminal abuse of office.

A memo seen by Nhau/Indaba states that
Detective Constables Shinnon Mihloro (32) and Fortuna Matoma (33)
were arrested after trying to extort US$1000 from a suspect they had arrested in return for a twisted testimony in his favour.

Allegations are that on 17 March 2022, the two detectives were part of a Drugs and Narcotics team from Harare.

They are reported to have arrested Titus Sangila (29) residing in Hatcliff Extension, Harare and Simbarashe Chaendera (36) for unlawful possession of dangerous drugs as defined in section 157(1)(a) of the Criminal Law [Codification and Reform] Act Chapter 9:23.

Wednesday, Sangila appeared in court for trial and Detective Constables Matoma and Muzhanje testified against him.

His co-accused Chaendera was remanded to the following day for trial and Detective Constables Matoma and Mihloro were to testify.

On the same day, information was gathered by Police Internal Investigations that D/Csts Matoma and Muzhanje were demanding US$1000-00 from Chaendera to testify in his favour.

A trap was then set by ZRP Internal Investigations on September 15, 2022.

US$70-00 in denominations of 2xUS$20 and 3xUS$10 was used.

Chaendera handed over the trap money to D/Cst Mihloro while the trap team watched.

After receiving the money, the team pounced on him leading to his arrest.

His partner, D/Cst Matoma was subsequently arrested while at court and nothing was recovered from him.

The two detectives are detained at Rhodesville ZRP station. Nhau/Indaba
