Seh Calaz, Chipaz Invade The Home Of Zim Dancehall

By Purity Marungisa

Zim dancehall has come alive again! And it took none other than Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions to bring it back to life, announcing his return to music promotion via an oversubscribed Harare Gardens show in which over 5000 people are estimated to have attended. But also on that night – another larger than life character announced his rebirth.

Although he is already big; being visible not just musically but through no holds barred commentary of everything from politics to the country’s economic situation – Seh Calaz was by far the best performer that night.

He left them wanting more – and now he has put together a show where he is undeniably the star. Born Tawanda Mumanyi, the Zim dancehall superstar, who often went head-to-head with the late iconic Soul Jah Love, is reintroducing his album “Bvopfiro Pariro” at Mbare Netball Complex. Endorsed by the who-is-who in showbiz circles, the show features a star-studded line-up. Red hot Enzo Ishall, timeless Kinnah, resilient Silent Killer, the inimitable Blot, Jah Master, Hwinza, Kadjah and Jah Child, among many others, are set to thrill the expected multitudes.

Commenting on the 12-track album, Calaz said: “Some people have already been questioning the name ‘Bvopfiro Pariro’ of which the meaning is in all the songs I have composed on this project. Bvopfiro Pariro is just a statement, words that I have come up with during my meditation session. I can say that it is a code for my tribe — ‘Mabhanditi’. You see, as we grow old in this sector, you will have seen a lot of things and you begin to evolve.”

He is reinventing himself. “On this album, I went back to the old me. I used to sing hardcore dancehall, street songs, club songs, self-praise, teachings and motivational songs.

My songs are inspiring and so touching. I can say the album has everything.” Chimbodza said promised a well-organised show. “Mbare Netball Complex will be on fire tomorrow as we unleash Seh Calaz latest offering,” said the tried and tested music promoter. Nhau/Indaba
