Six students from Mupfurudzi Secondary school were arrested for allegedly possessing this year’s Ordinary Level Mathematics Paper 2 (4004/2) in their cellphones, Nhau/Indaba has heard.
According to Mashonaland Central deputy police spokesperson, Sergeant Major Chikasha, on 20 October 2022 at around 2.30pm at Mupfurudzi Secondary School, headmaster Takabvira Scott (50) filed a report at ZRP Madziva to the effect that there were five students who had a soft copy of the paper in their cellphones.
At around 8am one the day one of the students reportedly approached their Mathematics teacher, Cylia Chipara (38) seeking a solution to a question he got from the exam paper.
Since there were rumours of the leakage of the paper Chipara became suspicious and deeply interviewed him.
He failed to give a concrete and convincing answer on where he got the question.
The candidate later on revealed that he got the question from the leaked paper which was supposed to be written between 9am and 11.30am.
She then informed Scott at around 9am during the course of the paper.
The headmaster then set a team of teachers to investigate the matter and it was established that the six had soft copies of the said paper in their cellphones.
During the investigations another candidate revealed that he got the examination paper from a friend and accused.
Another revealed that she got it from a WhatsApp group known as “Stingy People Association” which is mostly constituted of Bindura residents.
A report was filed at ZRP Madziva who attended to the matter and they were arrested.
Their cellphones were taken as exhibits.
They are facing charges of contravening section 35(a) of the Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Act while further investigations continue.
Sgt Major Chikasha appealed to members of the public to report any similar activities and warned that the law will take its course on anyone found wanting.
“Our members of the public are warned that police will be on the ground investigating all cases brought to them. The public should desist from engaging in criminal activities as the long run law will reach them,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
