Speeding Nyaradzo Driver Kills Pedestrian

Bindura Bureau
A speeding Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance driver allegedly killed a pedestrian after veering off the road at the 157km peg along the Harare Mukumbura Road on Monday, police confirmed.

The pedestrian was walking on a footpath parallel to the highway when Cliff Kondo (26) hit him at around 7am on his way to Mukumbura according to Inspector Milton Mundembe, Mashonaland Central provincial police spokesperson.

Identified as Zivai Chirere (32), the pedestrian sustained head injuries and was ferried to St Albert’s Hospital for medication but unfortunately died on admission.

It was alleged that Kondo lost control of his Isuzu truck and veered off the road to the right where he knocked down who was going to the opposite side on approaching the 157km peg.

He then swerved again to the left side of the road where he rammed into a parked Toyota Probox pushing it into a ditch.

As a result, the Isuzu had a deformed front bull bar and a broken left headlamp.

Inspector Mundembe appealed to public members to value lives and avoid speeding as it engages and causes the death of other innocent parties. Nhau/Indaba
