The Zanu PF primary election re-runs held over the weekend went by without incident, signaling the end of the party’s candidate selection process ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections.
The party ordered re-runs in some constituencies after violence and intimidation marred the previous votes.
Addressing a press conference, Zanu PF National Political Commissar Mike Bimha said voting progressed smoothly.
“We had no reports of violence, and intimidation. People voted freely and came in time. Voting started early in all the polling stations and ended at the stipulated time. As a result of that we had results before 8pm on Saturday,” he said.
For Harare’s Mbare and Churu Constituencies, Ephraim Fundukwa and Martin Matinyanya won the elections respectively.
Incumbent Ziyambi Ziyambi lost to Mercy Dinha for the party’s ticket for Zvimba West Constituency.
The Gokwe-Nembudziya parliamentary seat which was contested for by four candidates saw Flora Buka emerge victorious, after defeating Incumbent Justice Mayor Wadyajena and two other candidates.
Bimha said Andrew Langa withdrew from the rerun in Insiza South which automatically meant victory for Sphe Sithole.
Meanwhile, Bimha announced seats reserved for the youth quota.
