Nelson Chamisa’s Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is under siege.
As the movement’s lawyers filed court papers to set aside a police ban of an Epworth rally today, Zanu PF’s candidate for that area Zalerah Makari was inviting residents of the sprawling suburb for some freebies a stone’s throw away from the CCC rally venue.
Makari, who is battling it out with CCC’s Earthrage Kureva set up her food disbursement camp just three kilometres from the Olympic Grounds where the CCC is scheduled to hold its rally.
The Zanu PF candidate was expected to dish out free maize-meal to locals in an apparent last minute vote-buying attempt ahead of Saturday’s by-elections.
Meanwhile, the CCC rally, which had been initially banned by the police has been allowed to go ahead after the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) made a U-turn and withdrew the ban.
“Fellow Citizens the attempt by the Zanu PF to stop our rally in Epworth has failed. We are proceeding ahead and without fear. This country belongs to all of us,” said Gift Ostallos Siziba, CCC national deputy spokesperson.
