Zimdancehall chanter Mad Viper Wednesday got a dose of mob justice after being caught stealing a packet of maputi popularly known as “Zupco” worth ZWL10.
The incident, that attracted youths from around Katanga Road and Rugare Crescent in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, had them meting instant justice on the crooner whose music is popular in the dancehall circles the country over.
Like the serpent from where he derives his stage name, Mad Viper is known for churning out venomous, hard-punching lyrics which have seen him create “beefs” with the likes of Silent Killer.
Some of the songs he has released include Condom, Handingafe Neshungu, Zvavo Vane Mababie and a collaboration with Enzo Ishall titled Zvirauro, among a discography that is as long as the arm.
A product of Chill Spot Records in Mbare, the Chitungwiza-based singer took advantage of the absence of a vendor identified as Mai Cristabell at a stall at House Number 1366 Rugare Cres, and helped himself to the packet of maputi.
Unbeknown to him, some youths were watching his movements from a blind corner.
He pretended as if he was going to make payment inside the residence, but when he did not take a minute to come out, the youths doubted a transaction had taken place.
Meanwhile, he had hidden the stolen “loot” inside his sweater.
They then confronted him and after a heated argument, he confessed having helped himself to the packet.
That is when all hell broke loose as all forms of physical punishment were meted on him.
He was pummeled, slapped, kicked and head-butted, but was lucky to be spared an arrest.
As soon as he got an opportunity, he ran for dear life. Nhau/Indaba
