Henrietta Rushwaya Expected In Court Today

Controversial ex-Zifa boss Henrietta Rushwaya is this morning expected to appear at Harare Magistrates court for contravening Section 182 of the Customs and Exercise Act Chapter 23:02.

She was arrested by detectives at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport yesterday while attempting to smuggle approximately 6kg of gold to Dubai with an estimated value of US$300 000.

The gold nuggets were detected in her hand bag after Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) scanner operators thoroughly examined it.

Rushwaya, who is currently the president of the Zimbabwe Miners Federation, failed to give a convincing explanation and failed to produce any licence for possessing the precious metal or supply gold export approvals when she was apprehended by detectives from the Minerals Flora and Fauna Unit (MFFU).

Government is currently trying to plug leaks of the precious mineral but it appears that that those at the helm of the industry are the ones spearheading its smuggling prejudicing the country of much-needed revenue. Nhau/Indaba
