What Fulfilment? . . . Zakaria Speaks On New Album, Zadziso

Nicholas Zakaria is set to launch a new album titled Zadziso on November 1.

Zadziso in literal translation simply means fulfilment.

Since the veteran entertainer announced the name of the album on his social media platforms recently, music lovers were left with more questions.

What fulfilment?

Is this Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria’s last album?

Nhau caught up with the Khiama Boys leader who was quick to clear the air over his future in the music industry.

“I knew a lot of people will have these questions. But let me be clear on that, this doesn’t mean I am hanging the boots. We name albums with a lot of things in mind and people are free to interpret in whatever way they want, it can’t be a fulfilment to me alone but even Khiama Boys fans,” said Zakaria.

And on what the senior lecturer is really celebrating to have been fulfilled, he said it seems his efforts in the music industry are finally getting recognised.

Despite playing a huge role in shaping the local music industry over the years, Zakaria believes he is only getting the recognition now.

One can be forgiven to call him “man of the moment”.

Not because he has a song topping the charts, but because the corporate world and other stakeholders are scrambling to be involved with his name.

“This industry calls for a lot of effort and obviously recognition is expected. That hasn’t been the case though we have some incidents we really appreciate, and time is now. I am happy to see different stakeholders coming on board to work with us. Some of the efforts and hard work are bearing fruits, some of the wishes are being fulfilled,” he said.

Zakaria recently secured a place to build an arts centre in Chitungwiza. As if that was not enough, a top construction company pledged to do build the structure.

He recently launched a new video for the song “Zomvelamvela”, where companies from clothing, motoring, branding and entertainment jumped in to work with the veteran singer.

His album launch, to be done online, has also been endorsed by top companies. Not forgetting his recognition at the Zimbabwe Music Awards recently.

To him, it’s like a script.

And the “Tsamba” hit-maker is grateful.

“We are quite happy with every support we are getting, we have been working with Esteem Communications who are also playing a big role in putting us on the map,” he said

Zakaria, who is also regarded as the sungura godfather, continues to defy age and the forthcoming album is his 28th, marking a milestone that spans decades.

The new album, which features Simon Mutambi, will be launched on Facebook and a number of other online platforms. Nhau/Indaba
