Zim-based Desolo B makes waves in Tanzania

By Tawanda Matanhire

Dreams do come true, yes, with hard work and consistency.
For close to three years now, this writer has been nagged by an artist about doing an article about his music.
Well, I had my reservations. Many artists out there are always out looking for publicity. But some of them just don’t deserve the kind of publicity they would be asking for – the work won’t just be good enough.
I often use my discretion in deciding who to profile. But this particular musician ended up being a friend – to the extent of getting into my home. But musically, to me, he still was a tryer, unconvincing.
But he never gave up. Also never stopped working. I would see him feature on a number of music videos with prominent artists but I wanted more than that to be convinced that he was there.
We stopped talking about music and just became friends.
But recently, as I was scrolling through my playlist, being a rhumba music fan, I came across a song called I Love You.
It caught my attention – I loved it. To my surprise – pleasant surprise I should add, my old friend, Desolo B was the artist.
Desolo B, real name is Makula Marlos, who I never gave the light of day, is making waves in Tanzania including being on rotation on Diamond Platinumz’s Wasafi Television Network.
“I’m excited about the way things have started moving, I have always believed in myself and my ability as an artist and to see my new video being slotted on Wasafi has been a great achievement this year,” said the talented vocalist.
The love song talks about appreciating one’s lover and is sung in more than four languages including Shona, Swahili, English and Lingala.
Desolo B, a Rhumba artist, was born on June 12, 1993 in Kinshasa, DRC.
After relocating to Zimbabwe in 2012 he joined dendera maestro Allan Chimbetu’s band as a guitarist for three years. After leaving Chimbetu, he joined Rockford “Roki” Josphats, who he worked with for a year.
When Roki relocated to South Africa in 2016, the young man was left with no option but to start a solo career. He would get slots to perform at Ambassador Hotel and a few other places while working on his solo album.
He released his debut album, Ndakupenda, on December 14 in the same year. The album featured Dherira hitmaker Andy Muridzo on the song King of Peace.
Since the Launch of his solo career, Desolo B has performed on stages with some big names in the Music industry. These include Koffi Olomide, and Werrason.
He has featured in a Zimbabwean Movie called, Rufaro. The talented lead guitarist has collaborated with Ti Gonz and Soul Jah Love on singles that are yet to be released.
He was also working on a song with the late Oliver Mtukudzi before he passed away and has hopes that they will be able to release it in the near future.
This year, he was Signed by Diamond Studios where he is working on his new Album. Nhau/Indaba
