A “contest” known as the Ndashaiwa challenge has taken social media by storm as musicians find themselves with more time on their hands due to the Covid-19 lockdown.
Social media platforms are awash with different versions of the challenge of the Ndashaiwa cover originally done by ZCC Mbungo stars.
Speaking to Nhau some of the artists highlighted that music has no boundaries and is a unifier.
“I chose to take part as a way of appreciating the richness of our local music and the diverse talent at the same time having fun interpreting it in my own musical way,” said Victor Kunonga who did his lead guitar version of the song.
Talented multi-instrumentalist but renowned for his bass guitar prowess, Josh Meck said: “This is so much fun for me and it entails that music can never age. Imagine this song made waves years back but artists have managed to take on the challenge today, reviving the good music.”
Said Mono Mukundu: “This gives us another opportunity to interact as Zimbabwean music artists and share the vast talent we have at the same time taking ourselves off the lockdown focus.”
So many other artists have joined the challenge and are enjoying impressive views on social media as a way of promoting their pages and brands.
The Ndashaiwa challenge comes hard on the heels of the popular Jerusalema dance challenge, whose original song was done by Master KG.
It took the world by storm, unifying different cultures through music.
The song won endorsements throughout Africa, with individuals and corporates participating in the dance challenge to market their brands. Nhau/Indaba
