President Emmerson Mnangagwa partially eased the country’s national Covid-19 lockdown regulations this afternoon.
Addressing the nation from State House in Harare, Mnangagwa said all schools, colleges and universities must prepare to open in strict observation of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the country’s National Covid-19 lockdown protocols and guidelines set by the ministry of Health and Child Care.
He said all these institutions should also utilise virtual learning where possible.
The ban on inter-city travel has also been lifted and bus operators have been urged to observe set protocols such as disinfection of buses, maintaining social distance, sanitisation and checking temperature of all passengers.
Industry has also been given the green light to operate with strict adherence to WHO and Health ministry guidelines.
Mnangagwa said exemption letters are no longer a necessity and the curfew has been shifted to start at 10pm until 5.30am while supermarkets are to close at 7pm.
Gymnasiums, bars, night clubs and beerhalls shall remain closed while bottle stores will operate on strictly take-away basis.
Restaurants can also operate without sit-ins but shall serve takeaways and make deliveries.
On social gatherings, Mnangagwa said a maximum of 30 people will remain in place for funerals while any other gathering should not exceed 50 people.
In terms of vaccines, the President said the country has already acquired 400 000 doses while 600 000 are coming. Nhau/Indaba
