Another Weekend Behind Bars For Rushwaya, Accomplices

Henrietta Rushwaya and her alleged accomplices accused of gold smuggling will spend another weekend in prison as their hearing could not be completed today.

Rushwaya is jointly charged with businessman Ali Mohamad, Central Intelligence Organisation operatives Steven Tserayi and Raphios Mufandauya and Gift Karanda on charges of smuggling and unlawful possession of gold.

Cross examination of the investigation officer Michael Chibaya was concluded today and on Monday State counsel Garudzo Ziyaduma will be doing the re-examination.

CIO operative Raphios Mufandauya distanced himself from Rushwaya and company saying he is the one who actually caused her arrest.

Through his lawyer Joshua Chirambwe, he said he was at the airport doing his job which entails requesting traveling documents from people at the airport including Rushwaya.

Karanda also distanced himself from accusations that he namedropped First Lady and Collins Mnangagwa at the airport saying the claim is designed to soil the First Family’s name.

He insists he is a proper candidate for bail with no evidence linking him to the offence.

The investigating officer insisted that Karanda namedropped the First Family’s name at the airport.

He said it will be in the interest of justice to have the five denied bail. Nhau/Indaba
