‘Axeman’ Kamambo Blinkered With Elimination

Suspended Zifa President Felton Kamambo

YOU can now officially call him the AXE MAN.

His real name is Felton Kamambo and yesterday he announced that three of his fellow board members – Farai Jere, Sugar Chagonda and Barbra Chikosi – are no longer part of the country’s football leadership.

Why?

Because they refused to join their colleagues, Kamambo, Philemon Machana and Bryton Malandule, in challenging their suspension by the Sports Commission, at the Administrative Court.

This, according to Kamambo, means the three cannot expect to be part of the decision-making of the ZIFA board.

The challenge is how a board, with just THREE bonafide members, given Stanley Chapeta’s co-option was never ratified by the ZIFA Council, can still make binding decisions.

“The Zifa Exco was suspended through the SRC Act which allows for any affected party not in agreement with the decision to appeal to the Administrative Court,” Kamambo posted on the ZIFA Council interactive forum.

“It is the position of our laws that where such an Act is silent the common law position that lift the previous decision kicks in, in this case the SRC suspension of the board members for those that appealed was lifted by the operation of the law.

“Of the seven board members, only four opted to appeal so by operation of the law they are the only ones unsuspended since the other three accepted the suspension and the charges levelled against them.

“Upon appeal, these board members announced their resumption of duty but were warned of ‘severe unspecified consequences’ through an SRC statement so could not be at the office for such would mean involving themselves in physical confrontation.

“Such cannot be taken to mean that the suspension is still in effect as it is akin to someone physically throwing you out of your own house, being outside does not mean such house cease to be yours.”

Now, assuming Kamambo is right, how can he reconcile himself with the reality that FIVE of the EIGHT board members, who were elected to run the game, have now fallen by the wayside.

Gift Banda was the first and was soon followed by Chamu Chiwanza.

Then, Jere, Sugar and Chikosi, the only woman on the board, have also fallen by the wayside.

Add to that the leaders of the Northern Region, the Dynamos, Highlanders and CAPS United leaders and about 25 others, and you have the real definition of chaos and a dysfunctional board. H-Metro
