Benyu Wants Algeria Dance

By Ray Munyoro
Warriors’ prospective midfielder Kundai Benyu has started working on his documents to be available for selection ahead of Zimbabwe’s back-to-back AFCON qualifiers next month.

Benyu, who recently joined English fifth tier side Wealdstone, has been trending on social media recently after he was spotted at the Zimbabwean Embassy in London.

A source at Zifa told Nhau that the player is in coach Zdravko Logarusic’s plans for the crucial encounters against the Desert Foxes on November 12 and 16.

Benyu was initially included in the Warriors line-up that played Malawi in an international friendly a fortnight ago but failed to travel.

“Kundai is in the coach’s plans and he has since started working on his passport with hope that his documents will be ready before the Algeria matches,” revealed the source.

Logarusic told Nhau that he has engaged a number of Europe-based stars on a personal level.

He, however, could not be drawn into commenting if Benyu is part of his wish list.

“Yes, I have been engaging a number of players in Europe and those who are prepared and ready to represent the country will be given the chance,” said Logarusic.

The 22-year-old, who featured for the national team before, has committed himself to represent Zimbabwe.

He joins Nottingham Forest defender Tendayi Darikwa who has already applied for a new passport having lost his documents.

Benyu’s commitment comes at a time Reading midfielder Andy Rinomhota and Queens Park Rangers striker Macauley Bonne are reported to have excused themselves from representing Zimbabwe.

“I have reached out to most of them, like I said before. The desire is to use some of them on these matches against Algeria but some are not interested.

“But we will not beg anyone to come and represent the country,” said Loga. Nhau/Indaba
