Big day for Big Dollar, gets stand as birthday gift

Sunday December 13 was a day to remember for Warren Park-based top emcee, Big Dollar Bruce, who turned 30 last Saturday.
The affable master of ceremonies, who has become synonymous with Volt/Motor Action Sundays that are currently being held at Hellenic Sports Club in Eastlea, Harare, received a surprise gift.
Emmanuel Mahachi, the ruling ZANU PF party provincial youth chairman for Harare, gave the 30-year-old a residential stand in celebration of his birthday which was attended by the who-is-who of Zimbabwean showbiz.
Speaking to Nhau Arts yesterday, Mahachi said they are in the process of finalising the paper work for the Zimre Park stand, so that it can be handed over this Friday (tomorrow).
“Yes, we gave a meaningful birthday gift to one of the most influential young people in the arts industry. We feel that it is our obligation to promote youths that are focused and work hard to earn a living,” said Hon Mahachi.
“We are finalising the paperwork to make sure everything is in order for the stand to be handed over this Friday. We will go with him for a hand over ceremony so that it is clear that we are not playing games.”
An ecstatic Big Dollar also told Nhau Arts that the present came as a complete surprise.
“I wasn’t expecting much on the day but Cde Mahachi made it memorable with the gift. It is something I never thought I would achieve at this stage of my life,” he said.
The arts industry has been adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic and artists have found it hard to make ends meet. This is mainly because the regulations imposed by Government to curb the spread of Covid-19 have stopped performers from taking to the stage since end of March.
The stage is where performing artists get their income.
Given such an environment, a lot of artists are suffering in one way or the other which calls for Government to lend a helping hand.
“I would want to thank the chairman for being there not just for me but for several other artists and the arts industry. Our finances as entertainers are not enough, so with a place to stay I’m in a much better position,” Big Dollar said. Nhau/Indaba
