Bindura Detectives Nabbed For Extortion

Bindura Bureau
Two well-known police detectives in Bindura were arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) this week for allegedly extorting an armed robber they were investigating.

The duo of  Elvis Magaya and Petros Kambalazaza, all stationed at CID Bindura appeared at Harare Magistrates facing allegations of extortion.

Detective Magaya was released on ZW$50 000 bail while Detective Kapalazaza popularly known as ‘KB’ in Bindura will “enjoy” the weekend in custody.

According to ZACC officials who spoke to Nhau/Indaba, the duo reportedly exerted pressure on the suspect who was refusing to lead them to recover a firearm allegedly used during a robbery.

The suspect was out on bail.

“They exerted pressure on him so that he would think of extorting them, to which he agreed. He informed ZACC of the extortion plan and was given trap money, which he gave to the duo,” said a police insider. Nhau/Indaba
