Bindura Organisation Empowering Unemployed Youths

A Bindura-based organisation has embarked on an empowering programme aimed at reducing unemployment among youths who often resort to drug abuse as a result of joblessness.

Community Zone Organisation (CZO), is offering youth-oriented activities such as debate, public speaking, entrepreneurship, business training, sports and arts among others to address unemployment.

Founder, Darlington Chaparadza said he formed the organisation for the purpose of motivating young people to forego the current unemployment situation by strengthening their networks in a bid to grab various opportunities out there.

“Young people should strengthen their networks so that they grow. They should take advantage of opportunities. Opportunities are like a sensor motioned door which opens when you work towards it,” he said.

Recently, Chaparadza hosted a virtual masterclass through the Zoom platform targeting vulnerable and disadvantaged youths who do not have access to opportunities.

Several youths from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Burundi, Somalia, Eswathini and Tanzania attended.

Young leaders from Eswathini, Somalia, Mauritius and Zimbabwe spoke encouraging youths to go an extra mile in searching for opportunities like business start-ups and to have the zeal to make an impact in their communities.

During the meeting, Mauritius-based McDonald Nyahoja urged youths to equip themselves with the necessary skills that make them competitive applicants for the opportunities.

“Constantly apply for opportunities in your field of interest this makes you an expert and better prepared for the desired requirements. Engage experts in your field of interest and have an opportunistic mindset. Be curious, optimistic and retrospect so as to strengthen your capabilities,” he said.

Chaparadza was happy that unemployed youths especially graduates were taking heed of his organisation’s vision and refraining from drug abuse which many have since resorted to due failure to acquire jobs.

In July this year the Zimbabwe Civil Liberties and Drug Network (ZCLDN) projected that 30% of youth in Zimbabwe are hooked on Crystal Meth, which has led to the escalation of violence and criminal activities.

CZO was founded in November 2017 and is trying to motivate young people who have lost hope in achieving their dreams due to unemployment. Nhau/Indaba
