Boxing Team Coach Thrilled With Cameroon Preparations

National Boxing team coach Marco Sibanda has said that his team is preparing well for the African Amateur Boxing Championships set for Yaoundé, Cameroon from July 25 to August 6.

“Our preparations for the Championships are on track. The Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) still has not cleared our trip but they are promising to do so hence I am not worried,” he ox said.

Sibanda is set to travel with eight boxers to the games which were described as life changing by the organisers who will give the winners good cash prizes.

Gold medalists will get US$100 000 from the International Boxing Association.

Taking part in the competition will benefit the participants, the national association and the other aspiring boxers who would have been left behind.

Good performances from the boxers will guarantee recognition from the continental and international bodies.

Zimbabwe boxers’ participation comes hot on the heels of the team’s participation in the recent World Championships which were held in Kazakhstan.

Preparations for the Kazakhastan tournament were not that  good according to coach and technical director Steven Masiyambumbi.
