Cabinet has approved the Early Childhood Development (ECD) Coordination Framework, a strategy aimed at harmonizing existing policies and enhancing the quality of services for children up to seven years.
The framework was presented by Honourable Vice President Col (Rtd) KCD Mohadi, who chairs the Cabinet Committee on Social Services and Poverty Eradication.
The initiative seeks to streamline various ECD-related policies and strategies across multiple sectors, ensuring equitable access to quality, inclusive, and affordable early childhood services.
Key objectives include aligning policy goals, improving service delivery standards, and strengthening existing structures to provide integrated ECD programs effectively.
Early childhood development is a national priority, as emphasized in the Zimbabwe National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1) (2021-2025) and the Constitution, both of which recognize its role in poverty reduction and human capital development.
By investing in ECD, the government aims to build a skilled workforce capable of driving socio-economic transformation. Zimbabwe is also committed to several global and regional agreements advocating for universal access to quality ECD services.
The newly approved framework ensures that national policies align with these international obligations, reinforcing the country’s dedication to early childhood education and development. Nhau/Indaba
