CCC Forces Police To Rebrand

Police have been forced to rename their community policing forum to avoid it’s members from being aligned to a political party, a circular seen by Nhau/Indaba reveals.

This follows the formation of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) in January this year, a political outfit led by Nelson Chamisa and has been giving the ruling party Zanu PF sleepless nights ahead of the 2023 plebiscite.

The initiative dubbed Crime Consultative Committee (CCC) has been rebranded to Crime Liaison Committee (CLC) with immediate effect.

Formed to provide a forum for sharing information and formulation of crime fighting strategies between the police and the public, the forum comprises of individuals and stakeholders from the business community.

“Following the formation of a political party with a log inscribed [CCC], misconceptions arise where our members of the Crime Consultative Committee may be viewed to be aligned to a political party. This Circular serves to clear misconceptions about the use of abbreviation CCC between our Crime Consultative Committee and a political party.”

“To remove this inconsistence, the title Crime Consultative Committee [CCC] has been rebranded to Crime Liaison Committee [CLC] with immediate effect. This is in line with the dictates of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the Police Act which requires the police to be non-partisan and impartial,” reads the circular.

The circular also states that all motor vehicles and clothing apparel used by members of the Committee are to be inscribed with the title CLC with immediate effect.

“Police documents containing the nomenclature ‘Crime Consultative Committee [CCC]’ to be amended to Crime Liaison Committee [CLC] immediately.”

The circular also states that any member who by act or omission, fails to comply with the instruction, commits an act of misconduct. Nhau/Indaba
