Chinese Firm Boosts Chitungwiza Youths

A Chinese business firm on Sunday donated 700 chicks and chicken feed to a non-profit youth affiliated organisation based in Chitungwiza for the development of poultry projects.

Loving Mums of Zimbabwe from the Chinese Business Association in Zimbabwe handed over the consignment to Teen Rescue Mission Trust (TRMT), an outfit fighting drug and alcohol abuse among youths in the dormitory town.

Acting permanent secretary from Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Dr. Edmos Mtetwa who attended the ceremony on behalf of Minister Professor Paul Mavima lauded Abraham Matuka TRMT’s director for his organisation’s efforts in fighting against drug abuse.

“The key role played by Teen Rescue Mission Trust within the Chitungwiza community and beyond to curb drug abuse is highly commendable. They engage in raising awareness, counseling and life-skill training programmes facilitation to keep the youths occupied and stay away from drug abuse,” Dr Mtetwa said.

He said the poultry project gesture by the Chinese organisation was paramount and there was need for more synergies such as this to be created so as to compliment government efforts in the fight against drug abuse.

Dr. Mtetwa encouraged the youths to stand against any negative vices on drugs and challenged them to be responsible by staying sober as they were the future leaders.

Mrs Li Manjuana from Loving Mums of the Zimbabwe said they were passionate for charity work and would want to help more youths in the country in various income generating projects.

“We want to say, from the Chinese community in Zimbabwe, we are a loving family and we are pleased to say we will continue to support youth projects. We must have our youths empowered so as to fight drug abuse, early pregnancy and crime,” she said.

Mrs Memory Kanyuchi from Ministry of Youth, Sport, Art and Recreation also congratulated TRMT for the great work they are doing for youths and urged the youths to utilise this opportunity to do more.

PG Centre provided various items of promotional material that included shopping bags, key holders, t-shirts, caps and diaries as one of the key partners of Teen Rescue Mission Trust from the corporate world.

Prophet Advocate Joshua who was part of the event challenged the youths and reaffirmed that it’s only God who could save the young generation before pledged to donate 1000 bricks and US$1 000 towards the construction of bigger fowl runs at the newly acquired ground in Besa Village in Seke.

Matuka thanked the corporates and individuals for their encouraging gesture and appealed for more partners from the corporate world and individuals to assist in building a life-skills training facility at their new site to further expand its scope and running of the organisation to meet its obligations.

“A strong youth is a strong country. We want to say from the Chinese Community in Zimbabwe we are a loving family and we are pleased to say we will continue to support Teen Rescue Mission Trust so that youths are empowered to fight drug abuse, early pregnancy and crime.”

“Give the Youths fishing rods and not fish” as the youths will become self-employed and more training programs shall be organised to spread similar projects countrywide,” he said. Nhau/Indaba
