Cimas Health Group has reported significant strides in expanding its healthcare services throughout 2023, marked by the commissioning of multiple new units and a robust financial performance.
Speaking at the 79th Annual General Meeting of Members of Cimas Medical Aid Society, CEO Mr Vuli Ndlovu highlighted the group’s ambitious expansion into tertiary care services.
He noted that 2023 was a pivotal year as Cimas moved forward with its healthcare strategy rollout, expanding service provision from primary care into tertiary care across various disciplines and geographic locations.
“During the year under review, the Group commissioned nine units across five disciplines in five cities and towns,” Mr Ndlovu stated. These included new facilities such as the Borrowdale Office Park Radiology, dental clinics in Kwekwe, Highglen, Bulawayo, and Mutare, as well as the 35 Fife Avenue Pharmacy, Ruwa Clinic, and Ruwa Pharmacy.
A significant milestone was the investment in the 35 Fife Avenue Hospital, a 16-bed facility that opened its doors in the second quarter of 2024. This hospital includes theatres, an intensive care unit, and a high dependency unit, enhancing Cimas Health Group’s capacity to deliver critical healthcare services.
Financially, the group reported a remarkable 117% growth in inflation-adjusted revenue to ZWL 180 billion. Dental attendances surged by 42% following the opening of new dental clinics, although Medlabs attendances faced challenges due to co-payments and increased competition.
Mr Ndlovu also highlighted advancements in healthcare technology, including the introduction of genomics sequencing infrastructure aimed at tailoring healthcare interventions based on genetic profiles. Moreover, the group implemented Robotic Process Automation and digital customer-facing products like USSD and WhatsApp Chatbot, enhancing member experience and operational efficiency.
Looking ahead, construction of the Van Praagh Medical Centre commenced during the review period, promising integrated health and wellness facilities. This investment underscores Cimas Health Group’s commitment to improving patient outcomes and enhancing service delivery.
Mr Ndlovu concluded by reaffirming the group’s dedication to maintaining ISO 27001:2013 certification, ensuring the secure handling of sensitive member information. *Nhau/Indaba*
