Conspiracies Fly As Ginimbi’s Funeral Drags On

Considering his age, connections and financial power – few would have expected Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure to die so soon.

He probably had ventilators in his house in case Covid-19 hit him.

Had he gotten sick, he could afford perhaps the most expensive procedures including complicated transplants while limb threatening accidents would have been met with reconstructive medical procedures.

Thus, his death caught many people off-guard, and as a result many stories are flying around.

Ginimbi breathed his last on Sunday November 8 after a horrific accident involving his US$500 000 Rolls Royce Wraith, a Honda fit, a stubborn tree and fire.

Those who witnessed the accident said Ginimbi was “flying”.

The simple narrative, of course, would be that after hosting slay queen Mitchelle “Moana” Amuli’s lavish all night birthday party at Dreams, Ginimbi and friends left for Domboshava just before the break of dawn.
Ginimbi, who was driving the car, was drunk and fatigued, and wanted to get home, over 40 kilometres away, as quickly as possible.

Frustrated by slow early morning drivers, he maneuvred his beast on the dangerous bends along Legacy Way, overtaking as he sped home until he encountered the oncoming Honda Fit, which forced him off the road and onto a secondary crash on a tree, which took his life.

The car then burst into flames – killing those trapped inside the car.

Conspiracies
From reckless drunk-driving claims, to political murder conspiracies, foul play and ritualistic activities – the death of Ginimbi is proving to be full of controversy.

Some of the conspiracies are plausible, some are silly while others are simply a result of people’s fertile imagination.

Almost every WhatsApp group created for purposes of sharing information about Ginimbi is full. There are dozens of those groups out there.
From the basic ones for family and friends to discuss funeral arrangements, to the most bizarre created simply for rumour mongering; in death just as in life – Ginimbi is still the centre of his universe.

Opportunists like Prophet Joshua and one Ba Tea have pounced – claiming to have foretold the businessman’s death. Other liars claim to have warned him not to go out that night while others say they told him to pray.

Fake Rolls Royce
What is difficult to explain though is how the famed Rolls Royce, which is fitted with a 150 000-dollar security and safety mechanism failed to protect its rich owner.

The car is designed to almost make it impossible for it to catch fire or hurt its occupants in an accident except for potential bruises from airbags – which include front impact, side impact, overhead and knee airbags.
“It’s a fake version of the Rolls Royce, that’s why it burnt down,” the conspiracy theorists have claimed.

They argue that the most common danger signs that indicate a car may catch fire, which include oil or fluid leaks, rapid changes in fuel levels or engine temperature, and cracked or loose wiring, do not apply to the Rolls Royce Wraith.

The luxury vehicle is designed to protect its owner even from themselves.
The Wraith’s Satellite Aided Transmission predicts the road ahead, automatically selecting the right gear on the eight-speed transmission to make long-distance touring natural and effortless.

In addition, Active Cruise Control is radar-enabled to keep track of vehicles in front and automatically maintain a safe distance, ensuring the smoothest possible ride.

For a more informed drive, the intelligent Head Up Display projects critical information in to the natural field of vision.

This lessens eye-strain and ensures you can enjoy the ultimate driving experience free from distractions.

Strategically placed cameras offer a 360-degree view around the car for assistance with maneuvres, while an infrared eye in the front grille detects potential hazards at night, such as people and animals, up to 300 metres away.

This assisted “night vision” extends far beyond the headlights’ beam and provides the driver with invaluable time to react to potential dangers.
With all these features, Ginimbi and his friends were simply supposed to be safe.

On the fateful day, the car even spit out the engine, as it is designed to, to reduce any chance of the car catching fire. So, what could have caused Ginimbi’s car to catch fire?

Design Flaws?
Certain cars are more prone to fires than others. If the manufacturer does not catch a problem, it could lead to an explosion or fire. Manufacturer flaws that may lead to fires include electrical issues, faulty batteries or fuel tank leaks.

Collision?
Auto collisions can result in fires. Data from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) shows that while accidents only accounted for four percent of car fires in the US, they caused 60 percent of car fire-related fatalities. Whether an accident will cause a fire depends on what area of the car is hit. For example, if the gas tank is hit, it could cause a leak and ensuing fire.

Electrical Problems
Mechanical failures can cause cars to catch fire. This includes problems with: “Heated seats, batteries, heating systems, aftermarket accessories. Even just a stray, frayed wire could result in a catastrophic fire.”

Overheating Engines
If your engine gets too hot, it could result in fluids rising to dangerous temperatures and spilling out onto the engine or exhaust system. Overheated coolant or oils can quickly ignite in these circumstances.

Overheating Catalytic Converter
The catalytic converters on a car emit a lot of heat. If there is an issue or they are not properly maintained, they could catch fire, causing damage to you and your car.

Foul Play?
Some of the first claims made soon after the accident were that of bullet holes on the car.

This would mean that whoever wanted him dead would be a sophisticated person, with resources to pull such a daring and complicated act.

This bullet holes theory has been largely dismissed, though, with explanations that the Good Samaritans who tried to rescue trapped passengers in the car, police and fire brigade all used sharp objects that may have caused the damage, which appears like bullet holes.

But did Ginimbi not have links with the criminal underworld?
The socialite dealt with international business tycoons, crooks and syndicates who could have strong criminal networks across the globe.

For starters, he was actually in the company of a fugitive, Limumba Karim, originally from Malawi, who was wanted in connection with a US$30 million “cashgate scandal” in his native country.

If there was foul play – perhaps Ginimbi was not even the target. Ginimbi also had powerful political and business enemies locally, who may have wanted him eliminated.

Rituals
Talk of juju (kuromba) has been normalised around Ginimbi’s wealth and death – it features in almost every conversation.

The businessman himself is said to have laid out crystal clear funeral plans and instructed close relatives and friends to ensure his wishes were carried out.

Circumstances surrounding his death reveal that perhaps he knew of what lay ahead in his life more than a week before.

Relatives and friends stated that he chose his burial site last week and but those he told never took him seriously.

There are claims that Ginimbi also said that he wanted his expensive mansion to be turned into a hotel. Was all this just a coincidence?
According to his sister Juliet, he told her that when he dies they should not hurry to bury him as his friends and those connected to his circles would want to travel from abroad to attend his funeral.

No doubt there will be more to talk about after the planned All White Parties at his mansion in Domboshava on Friday and Saturday.

Whatever people think, whatever is said or written about the deceased braggadocio – Ginimbi managed to relegate news of the US elections in Zimbabwe.

Even Obert Gutu’s weird apology about sanctions did not get as much traction.

He had followers, loved ones and fans that are hurting and trying to come to grips with what happened. Nhau/Indaba
