The Consumer Protection Commission has issued a warning to the public regarding the recall of 50ml single-use neutralizing shampoo found in certain Dark and Lovely hair kits
This recall, prompted by the COMESA Competition Commission, applies specifically to the Dark and Lovely moisture plus kits (Regular and Super) and Dark and Lovely anti-breakage kit.
The recall was initiated due to the presence of bacteria in the shampoo, which poses a risk of scalp infections, especially to individuals with compromised immune systems.
The recalled kits produced in April 2023 by L’Oreal was distributed in South Africa and has been exported to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Kenya, Ghana, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Morocco and Nigeria. Earlier this month South Africa’s National Consumer Commission recalled use of these products.
The Consumer Protection Commission has urged consumers who have purchased the affected products to immediately discontinue use of the 50ml single-use neutralizing shampoo and return it to the point of sale. L’Oreal, the manufacturer, has committed to providing full refunds for returned products.
This recall is in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, specifically Section 15 (I) (e) which mandates recalls for unsafe goods. The Commission underscores its commitment to ensuring consumer safety by implementing necessary measures to protect the public from potentially harmful products.
The Commission emphasizes the importance of consumer vigilance and urges swift action to mitigate any potential health risks associated with the use of these recalled products. Nhau/Indaba
