Deputy Minister Mnangagwa Assaulted By Suspected Drug Dealer

Deputy Tourism Minister, Tongai Mnangagwa was allegedly assaulted by a suspected drug dealer while attending a party in Harare’s Avenues area Tuesday night, police have said.

According to a leaked internal memorandum, Antony Mwedziwendira, who is currently on the run, assaulted Mnangagwa at corner 6th and Fife Avenue while he was leaving a party at around 10.15pm.

Police have since launched a manhunt for Mwedziwendira who is also facing charges of drug possession after police recovered drugs from vehicles linked to him that were parked at the scene.

“After the party Mnangagwa proceeded to where he had parked his vehicles and was intercepted by Mwedziwendira who was complaining that his convoy was blocking his parked vehicles.

“Mwedziwendira charged towards Mnangagwa, manhandled and assaulted him with open hands. The aide de camp intervened and the accused person went on to assault one of the aides with open hands once on the face.

“Upon realising that he was dealing with a deputy minister, Mwedziwendira fled from the scene leaving behind four vehicles – a silver BMW 530I, a red VW Bettel, a blue Mercedes Benz C240 and a silver Mercedes Benz C220,” reads the memorandum.

Police towed the vehicles to Milton Park police station before summoning the CID Drugs Section to search the vehicles after it was suspected that Mwedziwenzira was a drug dealer.

An assortment of sex enhancers, bottles of Bron Clear,, and sachets of mbanje were recovered from the vehicles.

Police also recovered Mwedziwendira’s passport together with one belonging to one, Takudzwa Sachikonye. Nhau/Indaba
